Why Do I Feel Numb In My Faith?

Numbness is scary because it makes you wonder whether you even care anymore; you know the truth, but it feels far away and your heart feels slow. God promised in Ezekiel 36:26 to give a heart of flesh where a heart of stone had taken over.

Do not manufacture spiritual emotion just to prove that you still care; ask God honestly to awaken what has gone quiet and keep showing up while your feelings catch up. Numbness does not heal through pretending. It heals through honest return.
Numbness is not the same as absence
Spiritual numbness can be frightening because faith often gets measured by feeling. When emotion goes quiet, people start wondering whether God is gone, whether prayer is pointless, or whether they have somehow lost everything they once believed. But the Bible contains long stretches of faithful people praying from dryness, confusion, grief, and silence.
The answer is not to manufacture emotion. Keep practicing truthful presence. Read slowly enough to hear the words. Pray what is real instead of what sounds spiritual. Pay attention to exhaustion, grief, hidden sin, isolation, and overload because spiritual numbness sometimes has very ordinary contributors. Faithfulness in a dry season may look less dramatic than before, but showing up without emotional reward can become a deep form of trust.
